> Good morning, everyone.
I hope you’ll pardon the interruption, but I’ve run into a small household mystery I’d appreciate some thoughts on.
While making my breakfast today—just an English muffin, nothing out of the ordinary—my older Sunbeam toaster began producing a very high-pitched tone. At first I assumed it was simply the heating element straining, but the sound wavered in a way I can’t quite describe.
It wasn’t mechanical. It wasn’t electrical feedback. The closest comparison I can make is a kind of tinnitus-like ringing, but with an odd rise and fall, almost as though it were trying to form a pattern.
To be clear:
– The toaster is unmarked and has never misbehaved before.
– My wards are in place.
– No unusual smells, lights, or temperature shifts.
The muffin toasted perfectly, which is perhaps the strangest part, given the noise it made while doing so.
I’ve unplugged the toaster and set it aside for the moment.
If anyone has encountered appliances producing patterned tones, I’d be grateful for your insight.
Thank you, as always, for your time.

This thread is for discussing the technology we use to protect ourselves and keep us informed, not tech support for household appliances. Please contact Sunbeam's tech support as your toaster may become a fire hazard.

But he said the muffin was perfectly cooked. If it was becoming a hazard, wouldn't it burn?OffTheGrid wrote: 06 Dec 2025, 04:19 This thread is for discussing the technology we use to protect ourselves and keep us informed, not tech support for household appliances. Could it have been morse code? If you get a recording, maybe I can remember my eagle scout days and translate for you.SerlingFan61 wrote: 06 Dec 2025, 04:15 It wasn’t mechanical. Thank you for taking me seriously, HillbillyBilly.
Here's the audio file you requested. I must warn you it is quite loud, no matter how low your volume, and it may be hard to make out the tones. https://tinyurl.com/Toastersoundsdotwav
And to OffTheGrid. I understand you are an administrator, but I'm no fool. I've contacted Sunbeam support who refuses to admit any fault and insists their product can't be the appliance making this noise, as I've demonstrated the sound over the phone. They suggested the outlet or other nearby electronics. I've tried other outlets and other larger load appliances in the outlet. Sunbeam offered me a coupon. My toaster may be talking with the power of tinnitus and headaches and they offer me a coupon.
About this being the wrong thread, I didnt feel it fit in conspiracies or sightings. If anything, I felt the tech thread has the best luck deciphering this noise with some software im not familiar with. I barely found this forum, let alone understand audio editing software.
