Heard crying in the woods. Followed it. No one there.

I know, I know: “don’t follow crying in the woods.” Yeah.
But it sounded like a kid. Alone.
I followed the sound for maybe five minutes. Every time I got closer, it moved deeper in.
Then it stopped. Dead silent.
I turned around and realized I’d walked in a perfect circle back to my starting spot.
Something was leading me, not away — around.
Still hearing little echoes of it tonight.
